Welcome to First Grade!

 

Dear Families, 

 

My name is Emily Rogan.  I am so happy to be your child's first grade teacher this year!  I am very excited to get to know you and your child and find the best ways to support their growth and learning. 

 

I'll tell you a little bit about myself.  I grew up in Cranston.  I went to Providence College and received degrees in English, Regular Education, and Special Education.  I also received a master's degree in Special Education.  While I was in college, I worked at the Cranston YMCA and helped to run the Gladstone YMCA after school program.  I officially started teaching at Gladstone for the 2005-2006 school year and have been here ever since!  

 

Students in first grade will learn to read, write, spell, and break down, pull apart, and put numbers back together.  We will do all of this while gaining twenty-first century skills in communication and collaboration.  We will be integrating Project Based Learning so students can learn how to solve authentic problems together.  

 

I will communicate with you mainly through notes in your child's yellow folder and the Talking Points app.  You are your child's first teacher and I know together we can make this a great school year for your child!
